Schooling in Pajamas

Abraham and Isaac

Our Bible reading for this week was  Genesis 22:1-19. We read about Abraham and Isaac. I changed things up this week and liked the results. Usually we read and do any related activities at the same time. Which usually works for the shorter stories. This time we read the story on Monday then did an activity on Tuesday. This seemed to work out better.

We read the story  in our school Bible. Then we spent a few minutes talking about sacrifice  and what an alter is. For that we used the Bible dictionary I posted bout in a previous post. We spent less than ten minutes on it. The next day we made  dolls for Abraham and Issac, a paper mountain, a stone alter, and of course used our plastic ram to reenact the story. This seemed to help him recall the story. We talked about God testing us and why. We also discussed faith and how Abraham showed it in God and how Isaac showed it in his father.

We did not do our Book of centuries due to the fact that I am having a hard time finding an estimated date for it. I really need to find a reliable source for this as I want him to realize the Bible is not just made up of stories but history.
